EMA Pushes ESMP Training as Shortage Reporting Matures

EMA’s “What’s new” page lists a new event for European Shortages Monitoring Platform (ESMP) training on readable IDs and general updates for industry dated 20 March 2026. EMA also says ESMP is the platform through which marketing authorisation holders and national competent authorities access shortage-reporting functions, supported by user guides and training materials.

That matters globally because medicine shortages increasingly sit at the intersection of supply oversight, operational reporting, and patient protection. A platform-backed training push suggests that shortage reporting is becoming a more disciplined digital process rather than an ad hoc administrative task. That second point is an inference from EMA’s training and access infrastructure.

For PV Watch Daily readers, ESMP is a sign that the global safety landscape keeps expanding beyond traditional adverse-event reporting into broader product-availability intelligence
